ABOUT US
Development & Empowerment Society (DES) is a non-governmental organization that was established in 2015 to advocate for sustainable development, empowerment, and advocacy for marginalized communities in the Sindh province of Pakistan.
The organization has since accomplished significant milestones in youth and women empowerment, gender rights, and civil and political rights. DES is associated with national and international alliances and networks to extend its outreach and influence.
By implementing a variety of capacity-building initiatives, awareness campaigns, policy advocacy, and projects, DES is committed to creating a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable society.

FOUNDING
The genesis of Development & Empowerment Society (DES) is rooted in a collective dream of a group of passionate, dynamic, and forward-thinking young professionals who were deeply engaged in the development sector. Assembled in 2015, this vibrant coalition was driven by a compelling urge to confront and resolve the most pressing issues plaguing their communities. The naming of the organization was a testament to their commitment— to drive development and empower society.
DES adopted a comprehensive and inclusive approach to problem-solving, refusing to restrict its attention to specific sectors or geographical areas. The organization has since actively engaged in a wide array of interventions encompassing education, health & hygiene, youth & women empowerment, emergency preparedness, governance, free legal aid, human rights, and more.

APPROACH
DES’s strategy has always been oriented towards capacity building and service delivery with a keen emphasis on marginalized and underprivileged sections of society. Unique to DES’s modus operandi is its dedication to community involvement. The organization actively fosters grassroots participation, ensuring local communities play a pivotal role in every intervention.
Furthermore, DES places a high premium on women’s empowerment, recognizing the significant role women play in cultivating peace, tolerance, and development. By mobilizing women and leveraging their influence, DES champions a gender-inclusive approach to societal progress and development.
